Hello World!

I'm finally getting the chance to travel for pleasure more and have a decade of business travel under my belt so thought it would make sense to get some of it out there. We'll mostly be focusing on travel in and around Japan (Kyoto and Tokyo primarily since that's where I'm most familiar) but will also have some content about Europe as well as general tips, tricks, stories, and probably way too much historical stuff along the way. Be prepared for a few posts about old fashioned travel preparedness too; phones can break and a lot of people can't even read a city map anymore.

Since a lot of posts will focus on Japan I want to make it clear from the outset: I do NOT live in Japan and do not want to live there; I'm more than happy to be a repeat tourist and interested outsider. From a language perspective I studied it heavily in high school and university but for the last 15 years or more I have had basically zero chances to speak or write in daily conversation so have lost a lot of it. Tuning that back up with some online courses but it's funny how much you can still understand if you consume a lot of Japanese media.
